Community
Our students know that strong and caring communities don’t build themselves. We build community together in many ways, including our morning meetings, time with our younger buddies, character education, and shared work. In morning meeting, we greet each other, practice social and emotional skills, solve problems, and play community-building games. One of our favorite things about buddy time is that we frequently see students playing with each other at recess and sharing time together outside of official buddy classes. Through studying various virtues (not values), students improve their ability to treat one another and themselves in ways that show understanding of character and how it impacts our community. Finally, we build community through a shared commitment to our work and to each other.
