Board of Trustees

2011-12 School Year

Greetings!

Thank you for visiting the Trustee page of the Giddens School website.

The Giddens School Board of Trustees seeks to fulfill its fiduciary duties within the context of the School’s ambitious and inspiring mission, vision and values. Trustees come with many different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. They bring corporate, nonprofit, education, legal, medical, finance, government, and community service expertise and volunteer their time and energy to the school. The Board of Trustees is guided by its accrediting body, the National Association of Independent Schools, which provides the following from page one of its Trustee Handbook:

The Board of an independent school has the ultimate responsibility for the institution. School heads and trustees come and go: only the Board is permanent. The Board is responsible for the integrity of the school, the standing and reputation built by its founders and those who have labored over the years. The Board holds in trust the school's future as well as its present; the board's collective judgment will affect how the institution can serve constituencies to come.

The Board has four principal responsibilities:
1. To organize and manage itself so as to fulfill its duties to the school
2. To plan, develop, and establish policy and to assess the school's performance
3. The Board is responsible for the school's financial condition and physical plant.
4. The Board selects the head of school and works cooperatively with that person.

The Board of Trustees meets monthly throughout the school year. With the exception of closed sessions routinely held at the end of meetings, all Board meetings are public and guests are welcome. Meetings are held at the School from 6 to 7:30pm.
